We are very, very sad. We helped Brandy leave this world at 12:30 am today. She was FINE this morning, but didn't want her pepperoni wrapped pills tonight or her dinner. When we were watching TV she never joined us but stayed in front of the fireplace. She then relieved herself without moving and could not get up. At this point I checked her gums and they were white. We had to carry her to the car in a blanket sling as she could not walk. The ER vet felt a mass in her abdomen and did a quick ultrasound to confirm her spleen was in very bad shape. We lost our last GSD 3.5 years ago to the same thing. And it happened just as quick.
Just two days ago she finally started to play in the yard and felt good enough to try to jump up on me. I am still in shock.
For this Thanksgiving we are so very thankful for knowing and loving such a sweet, gentle soul. I so wish our time together was longer. Three weeks was all we had together and my heart is aching.

Oh, that's so sad. I am so sorry. At least she had a very loving home at the end, even if only for 3 weeks.
Such sad news. Take comfort in the knowledge you gave Brandi the best 3 weeks she could have had. I am going to go hug my 11 yr. old GSD.
Sorry for your loss. The short time does not make it any less painful. My thoughts are with you and your family.
Oh Holly, I am so sorry to hear about dear sweet Brandy. She had the best three weeks of her life with you and your family and forever I know she'll be thankful.
Our thoughts are with you and your family
There really aren't words . . . hugs to you both for doing a wonderful thing for Brandi.
Thank you for showing Brandi the true spirit of thanksgiving! She was so luck to have had such a loving home, even for a short time, and you were wonderful to invite into your hearts.

So sorry to hear the news, Holly...but yes, you gave her the best 3 weeks she's probably ever had in her life, and thank you for loving her. She was able to go, knowing that she had a loving family to help her to the bridge. RIP Brandy.
I am so sorry. But I wanted to thank you because so many people won't even think of taking a senior. You gave Brandy a happy home till the end and it is a true love of the critter that makes us risk the heartbreak. ((((HUGS)))))
I'm sorry, Holly. I'm glad Brandy had such a good home to live out her last days in.
It only takes a second to fall in love. I agree the three weeks with you she knew she was loved.
Big, big hugs.
I am so sorry Holly...Brandy was grateful to be loved and cherished in the twilight of her life.
Oh, Holly, I am way behind in reading blogs, and I just saw this. Poor sweet Brandy, maybe she was finally happy, felt loved, and knew that her memory would finally be important to someone. And she knew that she was a member of a wonderful family who would always love her, no matter how short her time with them. I'm so sorry that you only had her for a few weeks, but I'm sure that for you the weeks seemed short, but for Brandy, it was like a lifetime of love...
I'm so sorry! :-( at least you know she was shown true love in her last few weeks here.
((((((HUGS))))))
